Abstract

This article highlights the issue on mutual understanding towards the types of metadata. The issue is triggered from the various types of literature produced by scholars, with different thoughts of understanding in terms of metadata types. This has led to confusion among the information society while handling research works pertaining to identifying the types of metadata used. To address this issue, several metadata standard were reviewed and analyzed using the systematic review technique. From the literature review analysis, three metadata standards were identified that included DCMI, METS and NISO. Using these standards,
similar types of metadata were combined and compared. Seven types of metadata were firmly formulated and justified. Finally, this paper concludes with adequate recommendation on the selection of metadata types which require proper analysis to achieve maximum output for any research conducted.
