Abstract
Good nutrition contributes to optimal nutritional well-being of the population. This will directly improve productivity and eventually contributes to the economic development of the country. Hence, improving health and nutritional well-being of the people is one of the strategic thrusts of the 11th Malaysia Plan (11th MP) (2016-2020). In supporting this important strategy of the 11th Malaysia Plan, the National Plan of Action for Nutrition of Malaysia (NPANM) III (2016-2025) was established with appropriate strategies and activities towards attaining optimal nutritional well-being of all. Among the Facilitating Strategies of the NPANM III for supporting the effective implementation and evaluation of nutrition programmes in the country is “Strengthening Food and Nutrition Research and Development”. Towards this end, the Nutrition Research Priorities in Malaysia (NRP) (2016-2020) was developed for the 11th MP with the main objective of prioritising research areas and topics based on national needs as delineated in NPANM III (2016 - 2025).
