Abstract
In the planning and design of water resources projects, engineers and planners are often interested to determine the magnitude and frequency of floods that will occur at the project areas. An estimate of the magnitude of a flood of a certain recurrence interval (commonly known as the "design flood") that is likely to accur is fundamental to ensure that economic engineering design with adequate standards of safety can be achieved.
