Abstract
In the planning and design of water resources projects, engineers and planners are often interested to determine the magnitude and frequency of floods that occur at the project areas. An estimate of the magnitude of a flood of a certain recurrence interval (commonly known as the "design flood") that is likely to occur is fundamental to ensure that economic design with adequate standard of safety can be achieved.
