Droughts in malaysia: a look at its characteristics, impacts, related policies and management strategies. In: Water and Drainage 2003 Conference, 28-29 April 2003, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. (2003)
Abstract
An effect of the El Nino/ Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phemonenon is the shifting of rainfall patterns over different regions of the world. Much of South East Asia and parts of Australia experience dry conditions during an ENSO event, leading to drought conditions in many areas. The 1997-1998 low rainfalls leading to drought conditions associated with the ENSO event affected some parts of Malaysia such as Selangor, Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Sarawak, and Sabah. In particular in southern Kuala Lumpur City, Bangi and Kajang towns some periods of domestic water supply disruptions occurred from April-September 1998.
