PM says Malaysia’s low corruption index score is due to human rights issues, not corruption. [Newspaper] (2022)
Abstract
Transparency International (TI) Malaysia recently released our nation’s score in the 2021 Corruption Perceptions Index, and let’s just say we didn’t exactly pass with good grades. Based on the report, Malaysia’s index score deteriorated to 48 points in 2021 and ranked 62nd among 180 countries surveyed. TI-Malaysia attributes the drop in ranking for the second consecutive year to stalled institutional reforms. TI-Malaysia president Muhammad Mohan said there has been a lack of political will to table important legislation such as the Political Financing Bill and implement major reforms in agencies such as the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
