Abstract

Greener heritage is about sustainable development that manifests itself in a conservation of green area as well as remnants of nature in cities. Being normally rural-based, the malays had from time immemorial been attached to nature and would create them within their community in more compact living environment. Being Muslims they are also being introduced to protecting their environment as being as virtuous act as Jannah, or The Garden is promised by the Qur'an as the abode for those that have accumulated the pleasure of Allah. The paper outlined the history of the making of greener heritage in the country with special reference to the two national parks within the boundary of the City of Kuching. it offered arguments as to the need for a comprehensive master plan to ensure the efforts on environment would result in greener heritage for the coming generations.
