Abstract

Nowadays, urban population has increased due to the trend that people move into the cities for better life. This urbanization occurs limitation of land availability. Vertical greenery systems (VGS) are introduced into cities around the world and have their own potential to bring back nature into cities but from a deep literature review, the use of VGS in Malaysia is still new. This problem inspiring the researcher to find out with answers for the following questions; 1) What is the type of vertical greenery system?; 2) What is the application of vertical greenery system that apply to the commercial building in Ipoh, Perak?; 3) What are the comparison of vertical greenery system that apply on the selected commercial buildings in Ipoh, Perak? This research study is a research to explore vertical greenery systems that are practiced to the commercial buildings in Ipoh, Perak. Three selected commercial buildings in Ipoh, Perak are chosen to be visited and observed by the researcher. Through the field observation, photo and videos are collected then transfer into sketches and will be analyzed. Comparison of VGS between selected commercial buildings will occurs. From the comparison, the data showed that there are two type of VGS are rigid green walls and cable-supported green walls. At the end of the research study, the researcher observed that VGS could be successfully applied throughout the selected buildings.
