Effect of girdling and paclobutrazol on plant photosynthetic performance of mangifera indica cv. harumanis. In: Malaysian Society of Plant Physiology Conference, 18-20 September 2023, The Waterfront Hotel, Kuching, Sarawak. (Submitted) (2023)
Abstract
The physiological changes caused by girdling and paclobutrazol distress the growth and development of plants in general. A field experiment was carried out on open-field Mangifera indica cv. Harumanis trees grown at MARDI, Serdang, Selangor to understand the relationship between girdling, paclobutrazol application, combined methods and untreated trees on plant photosynthetic performances. In the study, the combination of girdling and paclobutrazol application resulted in a significant decrease in photosynthetic rate (Pn), stomata conductance (gs) and transpiration rate (Tr) but significantly increase in intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci) and chlorophyll content (SPAD). On the other hand, girdling increased the maximum quantum yield of chlorophyll fluorescent.
