Abstract

A three-day regional planning workshop was held between 18 and 22 February 2002, at Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand to initiate the ILRI/ SLU project activities in South East Asia. A total of 20 participants from nine countries, namely Cambodia (3), Indonesia (2), Laos (2), Malaysia (2), Myanmar (2), Philippines (2), South China (1), Thailand (4) and Vietnam (2), attended the meeting. The participants were from universities or research institutes and involved in the teaching or research of animal genetics. Two persons were invited to represent Malaysia at this meeting; the two were Dr. Jothi M. Panandam from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Dr. Sharif Haron from Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI). The facilitators at the meeting were Dr. Ed Rege and Dr Okeyo Mwai from International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Prof. Jan Philipsson, Assoc. Prof. Birgitta Malmfor and Assoc. Prof. Lena Anderson-Eklund from Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Dr. Hans Wagner from FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and Prof. Emer. Charan Chantalakhana from Kasetsart University, Thailand.
