Abstract
MIRI: Melanau Association Miri has formed a new sub-committee known as ‘Jawatankuasa Adet Kawin Melanau’ (Melanau Marriage Customs Committee) as one of the efforts to preserve the identity of the minority community in Sarawak.
A spokesperson for the association Polycarp Anthony said the
formation of the sub- committee was one of the resolutions
unanimously agreed to in November last year during the group discussions at the workshop on ‘Adet Melanau’ jointly organised by Majlis Adat Isitiadat Sarawak (MAIS) and Melanau Association Miri.
“The main objective of the committee is to preserve the identity of the Melanau race, to consolidate the spirit of unity and promote harmony and cooperation among the Melanau communities and other communities at large; thus preserve the originality and uniqueness of ‘Adet Kawin Melanau’,” said Polycarp to thesundaypost.
