Empowering Murut communities with sewing and batik programme. [Newspaper] (2024)
Abstract
PENSIANGAN: The Murut communities in several villages here have recently learned skills that could not only promote their culture but also elevate their socioeconomic status.
Social enterprise G1FT, based in Kota Kinabalu, conducted a sewing and batik programme called 'Ampikit Ambatik Tumoro' for two villages in Mukim Tatalaan: Kg Binanun and Kg Pangaraan.
G1FT founder and fashion designer Zee Shazila said the project aims to elevate the local economy through cultural initiatives.
"We hope that all efforts to create a value chain through cultural design in this community will be further supported by more corporations, government agencies, and foundations," she said in a statement.
