Genetically Modified Food Products (GMF) and Its Importance in Maqasid Shariah. Al-Qanatir International Journal of Islamic Studies, 30 (2). pp. 216-223. ISSN 2289-9944 (2023)

Abstract

Humans depend on food to provide them with the energy they need to live. But when the world shifted towards the 4.0 Technology Revolution, other kinds of food were generated. Biotechnology has produced a variety of meals, including genetically modified food products (GMF). A product called GMF is created from plants and animals whose DNA has been modified. The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between the importance of Modified Food Products and its relation to the Maqasid Shariah. The methodology employed in this study is a qualitative approach, which involves gathering data from sources like journals and articles and analysing it using the content analysis method. The results demonstrate that GMF places a high value on the Maqasid Shariah, particularly when it comes to the protection of life (hifz al-nafs). GMF can indirectly alleviate the shortage of natural food resources in developing nations by giving food aid. To keep our trust in Allah SWT, we must first highlight the meaning of halal before consuming GMF food.
