Abstract

Traditional customs and culture are parts of beliefs, knowledge or behavior that are inherited from one generation to another in a group of people. The traditional customs of a society involve unique and distinctive culture, values, beliefs, rules and language. This unique life practice forms the pride and identity of the community, especially among the indigenous minority population. However, modernization and urbanization are eroding and threatening the sustainability of the traditional culture of the indigenous population. Accordingly, it is important to document and critically evaluate the uniqueness of the traditions and culture of the indigenous minority population in order to become a reference for the times. This book describes the treasures of heritage traditions and customs of the Dusun tribe in Ranau, Sabah based on field research conducted over two years with local sources. In addition, this book provides an introduction regarding the special heritage traditions for the indigenous population and universal in general as well as specific to the culture of local wisdom in Sabah. The results of this field study can serve as a reference for future generations in the context of the unique traditions and culture of the indigenous people in Malaysia, especially for the Dusun tribe in Ranau, Sabah.
