Assessing learning outcomes of information literacy programmes: Malaysian academic libraries. In: International Conference on Libraries: Towards A Knowledge Society, 14 – 16 March 2005, Penang. (2005)
Abstract
Information literacy programmes are conducted in almost all Malaysian academic libraries but they are labeled differently and their contents vary from one another considerably since Malaysia does not have a national information literacy competency standard for higher education to be used as a bench mark for the preparation and delivery of these programmes. There is no one standard mode of delivery of these programmes and the institution is free to choose the one mode that best fulfils its purpose. However, there is a need to assess the learning outcomes of these programmes in order to determine its effectiveness. This paper attempts to look at the different assessment methods, which can be used to assess the learning outcomes of the various information literacy programmes. There is no one best instrument for assessment – it has to evolve with time and use.
