UTAR service robot bags third place at RoboCup league. [Newspaper] (2021)
Abstract
KAJANG: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Service Robot by UTAR. Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) team won third place in the RoboCup@Home Education Online Challenge 2021. The five-member-team, Yong Cherng Liin, Chong Kah Yoon, Cheong Wy Joe, Chung Pu Onn, Kok Siong Yuan, and team advisor, Ir Danny Ng Wee Kiat started their journey building the UTAR Robot Service, which is a platform that serves as a development platform for service robots, since three years ago.Equipped with LIDAR, depth camera and IMU, the robot can sense its environment as well as conduct simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM) to navigate autonomously in any indoor environment. It can also detect speech and object recognition through the use of AI.
