Abstract
BERA (Nov 21): Grassroots or community sports and cultural arts need to be promoted and empowered to ensure that they will not become obsolete and forgotten, but rather become a tourist attraction that can boost the people's income.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said grassroots sports such as gasing, galah panjang, ceper, timbang bola are part of Malaysian identity and should not be forgotten, especially by the younger generation who have become more engrossed in video games.
For that, he said the relevant parties, such as the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, have been told to apply for appropriate allocations from the Ministry of Finance to promote Malaysian grassroots sports and cultural arts.
