Vlogmentary 530 | warisan tenun Muar

Vlogmentary 530 | warisan tenun Muar. [Video] (2021)

In this vlog, we explore the traditional art and culture in Johor, Malaysia which is Tenun Muar. The art of Tenun in Johor can be traced back to the middle of the 18th century. When Tengku Ampuan Mariam returned from Pahang in 1946, she was inspired to start a weaving centre at Jalan Mahmoodiah named Rumah Tenun Johor. Tok Ambak was in charge of this weaving centre. The weaving centre continued to accept weaving orders from the palace and the local community.

In this vlog, we are trying to dig deeper into Tenun Muar so we interviewed three individuals who are working at Galeri Tenun Johor, Yayasan Warisan Johor; Mrs. Roslinda, Mrs. Siti and Mr. Shahril. We had the opportunity to explore the story behind Tenun Muar. The reason we choose Tenun Muar heritage as our vlog is because not many people, including Johorean, are aware that weaving is also part of the state’s culture. This weaving is a very interesting Johor’s art and cultural heritage but increasingly forgotten. Thus, let's preserve our heritage as it is our identity as Malays.

We hope everyone will enjoy our vlog as much as we filmed it for you. Thank you for watching!
