Abstract

The number of fatality due to road traffic accident worldwide has increased for the past few
years. On average, 19.95 people were died in Malaysia due to accident. This create a lot of
public tension and enquiries related to the effectiveness of current intervention to reduce the
accident. For the last few years, our research group has developed paper based assessment to
identify the risky attitude of road users among Malaysian. The paper based assessment is
called Attitude towards Safe Driving Scale (ASDS). However, there is one critical issue about
paper based assessment-accuracy of data. Due to that, we are drastically looking for another
alternative. The eR-GenC is a new genetic test kit which will analyze variants of human
genetics would associate with driver behavior. From previous study, our research team has
successfully identified six (6) attitude domain which associate with risky driving behavior.
From that work, we move to the next level which aim to identify more accurate and sensitive
drivers assessment using human genetics. According to genetics expert from iPROMISE,
there were five potential genes that associate with all six domains namely: BDNF-rs6265,
CADM2-rs1865251, MSRA-rs658385, 5HTTLpR/SLC6A4 and MAOA-LPR. Due to that, this
innovation will definitely transform road traffic research and assessment into the next level.
More accurate and sensitive assessment will provide rich and meaningful data for future
intervention. The eR-GenC test kit will provide the most accurate data about drivers behavior
and will help to determine the best intervention to reduce road traffic accident in Malaysia
