Abstract

Nature offers abundant inspiration and resources for designers, facilitating the development of innovative everyday product designs. Radical biomaterials present unconventional alternatives to depleted resources, stimulating creativity among global designers and scientists. Integrating biomaterials from various organisms such as plants, bacteria, fungi, and algae into products addresses diverse challenges. Additionally, incorporating biophilic design elements in indoor spaces fosters a deeper connection to nature. This project explores biomaterials in product design, focusing on case studies involving coffee ground waste. The study emphasizes the development and refinement of conceptual models incorporating biomaterials. Validation of these materials is based on functional, aesthetic, and experiential criteria aligned with the developed conceptual models. The project also includes experimentation and proposals for biomaterial utilization, particularly from coffee and seashell waste. Furthermore, it contributes to three Sustainable Development Goals: promoting good health and well-being, responsible consumption and production, and preserving life on land.
